Several studies have demonstrated how our health habits are influenced by our social contacts, often negatively. But a study published the journal Obesity found team members in the weight loss and wellness program “Shape Up RI” concluded that participants were positively motivated by the team concept. Rhode Island researchers from Brown University and the Miriam Hospital found that groups seeking to lose weight lost similar amount, and participants who were most attuned to the team aspect of this project were most successful
“Shape Up RI’ is a web-facilitated program that claims success in helping 70,000 Rhode Islanders reduce BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol and weight by improving eating habits and increasing physical activity.
