Toby SmithsonToby Smithson is a Registered Dietitian, a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly American Dietetic Association), a Certified Diabetes Educator, author of Diabetes Meal Planning and Nutrition for Dummies, and holds a certification in adult weight management. She earned her B.S. Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition and Food Science through the Coordinated Undergraduate Program at Northern Illinois University, and has worked professionally in institutional, clinical and public health settings. Toby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in October, 1968, and has managed diabetes personally every single day since with no hint of complications. Toby founded DiabetesEveryDay to share her insights into successful diabetes self-management.

 


Tony Smithson

Anthony Smithson earned his B.S. Degree in Biology/ Chemistry from the University of Tennessee and his M.S. Degree in Public Health from Western Kentucky University. Following a career in public health, he is managing editor for DiabetesEveryDay.com, a contributing writer, bioscience consultant and official Guinea Pig for recipe development “quality control”.

 


Theresa LaurenzTheresa Laurenz, MS, RD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian and Kinesiologist, contributing to DiabetesEveryDay on both physical activity and diet issues. She earned her B.S. degree in kinesiology (exercise physiology) from the University of Illinois, and her M.S. degree in human nutrition from University of Illinois at Chicago. Theresa develops “wellness” programs as a personal trainer and clinical dietitian, motivating individuals and groups to incorporate healthy habits into their busy lives.  She believes that movement, nourishment, and emotional wellbeing are all equally important to achieve optimal health.  Her passion is to empower others to take care of their one and only body by providing the tools necessary to increase energy, prevent disease, and enhance physical performance.


Lindsey Singleton

Lindsey Singleton develops fabulous recipes for DiabetesEveryDay. Lindsey’s hometown is Phoenix, and she earned her B.S. degree in Nutrition from The University of Arizona in May 2010. In March, 2011 she completed a certificate program in Culinary Arts at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Chicago. Lindsey has a passion for food and nutrition, and hopes to inspire others to cook healthy and delicious meals with the help of the Diabetes Everyday recipes.


Joan HammelJoan Hammel co-hosts DiabetesEveryDay “radio”. Joan is an award winning professional vocalist who performs live, in commercials, on television, in films, and on radio. She has been nominated five times for Pop Entertainer of the Year by the Chicago Music Awards, and has hosted and produced live radio and webcast talk shows to critical acclaim. AJ SkerbecA. J. Skerbec co-hosts DiabetesEveryDay “radio”.  Tony is a former media chairman for a non-profit organization and co-hosted a daily talk show on a local radio station along with several regularly scheduled web-casts covering sports, entertainment, and community affairs.

 


Jeri Laureano

Jeri Laureano advises DiabetesEveryDay on the emotional issues associated with diabetes and self-management. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and has a private counseling practice in the Chicago suburbs. Jeri has worked with diabetes patients in both private and group settings.


Paola Seguil

Paola Seguil is a correspondent for DiabetesEveryDay. She graduated from the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Nutrition, and is currently completing the M.S. Coordinated Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago to become a Registered Dietitian. Paola is a native of Peru, and moved to the U.S. with her family at the age of four. Her interests include community nutrition and diabetes education, and her energy and passion is obvious in her writing. Chelsea Patton

Chelsea Patton studies Psychology and Nutrition at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and has been an educator on healthy eating for the past three years.  Her professional and personal passion is to creatively facilitate lifestyle changes to enhance mental and physical wellness, and Chelsea contributes to DiabetesEveryDay researching and writing on positive psychological strategies to influence diabetes self-management. She works locally as a camp counselor for children experiencing homelessness, internationally in a variety of charitable causes, is a life-long Girl Scout and a yoga enthusiast.


Marlene Koch

Marlene Koch is a registered dietitian, is a nationally recognized nutritionist, popular TV personality and  New York Times best-selling author who delivers good health with great taste! She has taught chefs across the nation the principles of healthy cooking and eating for the American Culinary Federation, and sold more than one million cookbooks.  Marlene is a regular guest on QVC and her books and recipes have appeared on television programs including The Today Show, Fox & Friends, and The Food Network, as well as in countless magazines and newspapers including Cooking Light, Woman’s World, Men’s Fitness, Diabetes Health, the Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune. Gita Patel

Gita Patel is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and certified LEAP (Lifestyle Eating and Performance) therapist specializing in diabetes, women’s health, heart disease, vegetarian nutrition, healthy aging, migraines, IBS, IBD, Celiac disease, food allergies, food sensitivities and food intolerances, and multiple sclerosis. Her vegetarian cookbook, Blending Science with Spices: Tasty Recipes & Nutrition Tips for Healthy Living, is the culmination of her traditional Indian background, the varied foods she grew up eating, and her extensive training in modern nutritional science.

Cindy KlecknerCindy Kleckner a Registered Dietitian with more than 30 years experience working in the fields of culinary nutrition, weight management, cardiovascular health and general wellness. She received a Bachelor of Science in nutrition and dietetics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and interned at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Cindy leads monthly culinary demonstrations and nutrition programs at Cooper Fitness Center at Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. She co-authored Hypertension Cookbook for Dummies and What’s Cooking at the Cooper Clinic, and contributed to several of Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper’s books including Overcoming Hypertension.


Wendy Jo PetersonWendy Jo Peterson, MS is a Registered Dietitian, a sports dietitian, nutritionist, chef and author. She divides her practice between working with artists and musicians in Texas (Fuelin’ Roadie,) and working with other patients, including Olympic Athletes, in San Diego, California (Edible Nutrition). She has more than 10 years of experience working with clients, is a nutritional speaker and member of the prestigious National Speakers Association, hosts her own radio show about nutrition on Cuttin’ Up Radio, and is co-author of  The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook for Dummies.


Sharon PalmerSharon Palmer, RD has created a career based on combining her two great loves: food and writing.
